Graphic Arts

Pressed Botanical notecards are available in the East Hill Gallery and during the Folk Art Guild’s annual Open House and Apple Fest in October, and Holiday Open Studio Weekends in November and December.

“At the Guild, one is always close to nature.  Seeing how other craftspeople here incorporate designs and colors of the seasons is a continuing source of inspiration.”

— Artist’s Statement from the Graphic Arts Studio

The Graphic Arts shop

represents the oldest craft practiced at the Guild, beginning in Rochester in the late 1950's before the Guild moved to East Hill Farm in Middlesex in 1967.  There are several of the early original designs still available for purchase in our Gallery, as well as items created by many artists who have worked in the shop over the years. The Graphic Arts studio was responsible for the design and production of large-scale, full color posters, flyers and invitations for Folk Art Guild exhibitions and events in addition to the diverse catalog of books, notecards and art prints made in the shop. The study of color, form, and proportion has always provided direct inspiration for the items we produce.

Meet Michael

Michael Hunter is currently the head of the Graphic Arts Studio. After many years of offset printing at the Guild he now concentrates on one-of-a-kind note cards using handmade decorative papers and plants grown and foraged in our fields, gardens and woods.  Combining traditional handcrafted papers from around the world with pressed flowers and leaves opens endless possibilities. He says, “I am often surprised by the interplay, feeling that the materials are coming together on their own.”
