About the Instructor:

David Barnet has been a full-time woodworker since 1975, when he began his apprenticeship with the Folk Art Guild at the age of 23. Over the years, he has taken on a wide range of projects, including making toys, building furniture, and sourcing local woods. Drawn to the craft of woodturning, Barnet now serves as the master artisan overseeing the Guild’s woodshop.

His craftsmanship has been a cornerstone of the Guild’s exhibitions throughout the Finger Lakes region and has been featured at esteemed venues such as the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.—the American art branch of the Smithsonian Institution—as well as galleries in New York, Ohio, and Massachusetts.

Barnet is an active member of the Finger Lakes Woodturners, where he teaches and shares knowledge with fellow woodworkers. Over the years, he has taught woodworking to students of all levels and mentored several apprentices who have gone on to become professional woodworkers.
